Epic Adventure in the Pacific Northwest-Day 3

Epic Adventure in the Pacific Northwest-Day 3

The morning of Day 3 there were four of us that set out for some kayak fishing a few miles from the Sea Otter Lodge. We made our way through a channel that held quite a bit of kelp and numerous Sea Otters who curious about our kayaks.

The weather had stabilized and it was a calm morning with cool temps. We fished a couple of humps finding some fish with the Hook Up Baits jigs. These jigs are simply amazing! We were all in Vibe kayaks powered by Bixpy electric motors. Two more anglers joined us later in the day.

Today, we were looking for structure where there would be bait such as squid, small fish led by our salt water expert Chad Gierlich of Hook Up Baits. The baits he brought us to use are simply phenomenal! We also had lures from Gibbs Bait Company.

As we made our way along a stretch of water we found several submerged humps that held bait and fish. We caught lingcod, copper rock fish , black “bomber” bass, kelp greenling, chinese rockfish, flounder, cabezon, and blue lingcod.

The wind picked up from the southeast but the islands to the south of us protected us from the brunt of it. There were swells from the west to around three to four feet which wasn’t a bother at all. Our pedal drive Vibe kayaks were very stable and Bixpy motors kept us going at a good pace as we caught some really nice fish. We used Navionics for finding the structure and some birds also gave us a good indication of where there was plentiful bait.
